Art & Painting courses by professional tutors

Graham Lowe

After leaving school I worked as a trainee illustrator in a small commercial art studio in the East Midlands. There I created illustrations for books and other artwork for publication. After working for a number of years as an illustrator and in industry I gained a Fine Art degree. Since then I have worked as an art tutor in Adult Education and also as a community artist. As well as my Fine Art paintings I have created community and corporate murals in North Lancashire and completed commissions for the NHS and Lancaster City Council and I continue to work with a wide range of community groups.

I have exhibited in galleries across the North of England and my paintings have been bought by public and private collectors in the UK, Australia and Japan. As well as creating work for exhibitions and continuing with my own research I have collaborated with academics to produce joint research projects exploring aspect of British Landscape, ethnology and race. All of my landscape paintings are based upon my observations of Northern landscapes, with its field patterns, dry stone walls, way markers, rocky outcrops and standing stones.

My aim with all of my paintings is to create a poetic balance of colour, form and content, combined with a painterly technique to produce intimate paintings of a meditative nature. With my still life paintings my aim is to also explore the beauty of light falling onto simple everyday objects. I create my paintings in soft pastel, Oils, acrylic, gouash and mixed media. All of my work is double mounted and framed professionally in hand limed ash.

Fiona Clucas

Fiona Clucas's inspiration comes from the landscape and wildlife around her home in South Cumbria, favourite locations in Scotland and in her own garden which has become a haven for wildlife. She hopes that through her work she conveys the importance for people, of being connected to the natural world. She paints out in the landscape using gouache and mixed media capturing the wonder and transience of nature. In her studio she produces larger paintings in acrylic and mixed media and large graphite drawings.

Fiona exhibits widely throughout Cumbria, and is a member of the Lake Artists Society. She has exhibited regularly at the S.W.L.A. Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, where last year she received the Birdscapes Gallery Award. This year she was elected to Associate member status of the S.W.L.A and received The PJC Drawing Award. She has work in private collections here and abroad.

Patricia Haskey

Patricia studied fine art at the University of Central Lancashire and graduated with honours in 1980. Her work is held in The House of Lords Permanent Art Collection, in the Head Office of Cadbury and in private national and international collections in Europe, America and Australia.

Patricia's paintings are exhibited in galleries in the North West and across the U.K. including Newcastle, Edinburgh and London. She is a regular exhibitor at Maiden Bridge Arts Centre and was one of the invited artists representing the gallery in the Summer Exhibition 2004 in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden.

In 1984, Patricia gained the Certificate in Education from the University of Manchester. Her career in art education spans many years, having taught on the Btec Diploma, Foundation and City and Guilds courses at Lancaster and Morecambe College, The Adult College, Lancaster and Alston Hall, Longridge. She has also run many private classes and workshops. The landmarks, landscapes and skyscapes of the North West provide the stimulus for much of Patricia's work.

She is inspired and excited by the changing characteristics of the elements, when details of land and sky emerge as transient moments, caught in shifting patterns of light and colour. Patricia also enjoys travelling and painting abroad and the clear vivid hues of the Mediterranean are reflected in many of her paintings.
